Champlain College Honors Weiwei Wang as 2022 Distinguished Citizen

Vermont Business Magazine On Thursday, August 25, Champlain College presented its 2022 Distinguished Citizen Award to Weiwei Wang, Co-Founder and Director of Operations and Development, Vermont Professionals of Color (PoC) Network.

Now in its 61st year, the Distinguished Citizen Award recognizes and honors leaders of personal and professional achievement who exemplify Champlain’s commitment to developing engaged citizens who have made a meaningful impact in their communities.

“Champlain College is delighted to nominate Weiwei Wang as this year’s Distinguished Citizen. We are committed to doing that,” said Alex Hernandez, president of Champlain College. “Weiwei is a social entrepreneur whose efforts to improve people and communities are making a positive difference across the state.”

Wang currently co-founds and operates the Vermont Professionals of Color (PoC) Network, an organization launched in 2019 to promote the prosperity of Black, Indigenous, and Colored People (BIPOC) in Vermont. I am a development director. The VT PoC Network is focused on driving a new era of professional mobility, fostering entrepreneurial ventures and cultivating strong networks. Wang is also a member of the Stiller School of Business Advisory Board.

The honor was conferred at Champlain’s convocation ceremony, welcoming new students to campus. During the event, Wang shared her perspective as a Chinese-American living in Vermont and how she has found and built a network of herself and others in her BIPOC community. Last year’s Distinguished Citizen winner was former Vermont Public Radio voice actress and award-winning Jane Lindholm.
