Pueblo companies focus on cancer education, apprenticeship programs

The Dorsey Cancer Center at St. Mary Corwin Hospital and the Colorado Cancer Coalition have teamed up to provide breast education and mammography scheduling resources, colorectal screening kits, lung cancer prevention education, skin cancer screening, and more.

Most importantly, the public will be able to connect with local providers in Pueblo, Canon City and Colorado Springs.

The state transportation department offers a maintenance apprenticeship program

The Colorado Department of Transportation encourages anyone interested in a career in public safety to apply for a new maintenance apprenticeship program. The position is her two-year paid mentorship at Pueblo and includes both hands-on and classroom training. Apprentices obtain a commercial driver’s license and qualify as a highway maintenance specialist.

The starting salary is $16 an hour, which includes benefits worth approximately $16,000 per year, 11 paid holidays, paid vacation, and retirement benefits. Candidates must be 18 years of age or older and have a valid driver’s license.

United Way to Host 100th Campaign Kickoff Lunch on Sept. 7

United Way of Pueblo County is set to host its 100th Campaign Kickoff Luncheon will be held on Wednesday, September 7, from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm at the Pueblo Convention Center at 320 Central Main Street.

The event will feature the announcement of the campaign chair and other surprises. The community is encouraged to participate and celebrate “100 Years United”.

The entry fee is $35 per person, and corporate sponsorship is available. The deadline for reservations is Wednesday, August 31st. pueblounitedway.org/kickoff.

Southern Colorado Startup Week Tour in Pueblo on September 15th

Techstars Startup Week will honor Pueblo entrepreneurs and those making an impact in Southern Colorado’s business community with tours and more in Pueblo on Thursday, September 15.

Other events include a 2:00 pm class by Florian De Castro on “What You Don’t Know About Marketing and Advertising Hurts Your Business,” and a casual bike ride at 6:00 pm.
